Shekhar Presents at ASA 2013

Himanshu Shekhar presented at the 166th Meeting of the Acoustical Society of America, held December 2-6, 2013 in San Francisco, California. Himanshu's well-received presentation took place on Monday, December 2nd in the Biomedical Acoustics Session. It was titled "The late onset of nonlinear emissions from an ultrasound contrast agent" and the abstract can be found at http://scitation.aip.org/content/asa/journal/jasa/134/5/10.1121/1.4830490.

A paper co-authored by Prof. Marvin Doyley titled "A direct vulnerable atherosclerotic plaque elasticity reconstruction method based on an original material-finite element formulation: theoretical framework" was recently published in the journal Physics in Medicine and Biology. The work described in the article was focused in Dr. Jacques Ohayon's lab in Grenoble, France. In addition to Prof. Doyley here at the University of Rochester, collaborators included scientists from Alabama, Montreal, the National Institutes of Health, and other laboratories in France.

Himanshu Shekhar received the runner-up award in the Outstanding Speaker Competition of the 2013 SPIE Student Summer Colloquium Series, held at the University of Rochester. Himanshu's talk took place on July 11, 2013 and was titled, "The temporal evolution of nonlinear emissions from ultrasound contrast agents: implications for imaging and therapy." Congratulations to Himanshu!

Rohit Nayak and Himanshu Shekhar have both been accepted into the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) Med-into-Grad Fellowship in Cardiovascular Science. This prestigious HHMI sponsored URMC fellowship augments traditional Ph.D. training with clinical rotations, a clinical co-mentor, a weekly Cardiovascular Research Institute seminar series, and translational cardiovascular coursework to train the next generation of bench-to-bedside cardiovascular scientists. Rohit received the fellowship based on his application titled, "Predicting the propensity of atherosclerotic plaque rupture using noninvasive vascular elastography." Himanshu received the fellowship based on his application titled, "Nonlinear chirp-coded ultrasound pulsing for imaging plaque neovasculature". Congratulations to Rohit and Himanshu!

Prof. Marvin Doyley's review article on Model Based Elastograpy , published in Physics in Medicine and Biology (Volume 57, Issue 3, pages R35-R73, 2012) was selected by the journal as one of its "Highlights of 2012". This honor indicates that Prof. Doyley's publication is "some of the very best research published in PMB in 2012, celebrating the quality and diversity of papers we published last year. Selected by the Editors, the articles featured span some of the most cutting-edge areas of biomedical physics, and collectively are a reflection of the most influential research published in PMB in 2012."
