"Shear wave elastography can differentiate between radiation-responsive and non-responsive pancreatic tumors: an ex vivo study with murine models"

Congratulations to former lab member Dr. Hexuan (April) Wang, PhD students Rifat Ahmed and Reem Mislati, and Professor Marvin Doyley on the publication of the journal article titled "Shear wave elastography can differentiate between radiation-responsive and non-responsive pancreatic tumors: an ex vivo study with murine models." This article will appear in the February issue of Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology. The paper was written in collaboration with Dr. Bradley Mills, Dr. Scott Gerber, and Dr. David Linehan, from the URMC Department of Surgery. The article can be found here.

Dr. Hyoung-Ki Lee Joins the Doyley Lab

Welcome to Dr. Hyong-Ki Lee who recently joined the Doyley Lab as a postdoctoral research associate. Dr. Lee received his PhD degree in Robotics from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Daejeon, South Korea in 1998. In 1999, he worked as a postdoctoral fellow in the AIST Mechanical Engineering Lab in Japan. In 2000, he joined the Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology and developed vacuum cleaning robots with localization function as part of a home service robot project. Dr. Lee conducted research in simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) for home robots, fusing different kinds of sensors (inertial sensors, cameras, range finders, etc.), and developed new low-cost sensor modules such as a microeletromecanical system (MEMS) gyro sensor module and a structured light range finder. Since 2011, Dr. Lee has developed ultrasound machines with a strong focus on elastography (shear wave elastography and strain elastography). He has successfully commercialized the elastography function in Samsung’s premium ultrasound scanners.

Congratulations to Prof. Marvin Doyley on the publication of the journal article titled "The protective role of natriuretic peptide receptor 2 against high salt injury in the renal papilla." The article appears in the September issue of The American Journal of Pathology, and presents results of research conducted in collaboration with colleagues at the University of Rochester Medical Center and at the University of Minnesota. Reem Mislati Joins Doyley Lab as Graduate Student

Welcome to Reem Mislati who joins the Doyley Lab as a PhD candidate this semester. Reem received her undergraduate degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Rochester in May, 2019. As an undergraduate, Reem conducted research in the Doyley Lab with a focus on pancreatic cancer imaging. You can read about some of that research here. While an undergraduate, Reem also served as a departmental peer advisor and teaching assistant.

"Nonlinear shear modulus estimation with bi-axial motion registered local strain"

Congratulations to PhD student Rifat Ahmed and Prof. Marvin Doyley on the publication of the journal article titled "Nonlinear shear modulus estimation with bi-axial motion registered local strain." This article will appear in the August issue of IEEE Transactions on Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics, and Frequency Control. First author is Soumya Goswami, a PhD student supervised by Prof. Stephen McAleavey in the UR Department of Biomedical Engineering. The article can be found here.

Doyley Selected as Fellow for IAspire Inaugural Cohort

Congratulations to Professor Marvin Doyley who is one of 20 faculty members nationwide who have been selected as fellows for the first cohort of the IAspire Leadership Academy, a program aimed at helping STEM faculty from underrepresented backgrounds ascend to leadership roles at colleges and universities. The one-year core curriculum includes three 1-week in-person sessions, peer coaching sessions, and a concurrent individual learning component (institutional action project). Professor Doyley's project involves creating a pipeline to help diversify graduate students and faculty in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. "Strain-selective efficacy of sacubitril/valsartan on carotid fibrosis in response to injury in two inbred mouse strains"

Congratulations to PhD students Rifat Ahmed and Abrar Faiyaz, and to Marvin Doyley on the publication of the journal article titled "Strain-selective efficacy of sacubitril/valsartan on carotid fibrosis in response to injury in two inbred mouse strains." This article will appear in the August issue of the British Journal of Pharmacology. First author is Vyacheslav Korshunov of the Aab Cardiovascular Research Institute (ACRI) at UR. Other UR co-authors include Breandan Quinn, Mark Snowden, and Bradford Berk. The article can be found here.

"Distributing synthetic focusing over multiple push-detect events enhances shear wave elasticity performance"

Congratulations to PhD student Rifat Ahmed and Prof. Marvin Doyley on the publication of their journal article titled "Distributing synthetic focusing over multiple push-detect events enhances shear wave elasticity performance." This article appears in the July issue of IEEE Transactions on Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics, and Frequency Control and can be found here. The article describes work which showed that synthetic focusing techniques improved tracking performance, especially when performed with more transmissions.

Mislati Wins Award

Congratulations to undergraduate researcher Reem Mislati '19 who received a President's Choice Award for outstanding poster presentation at the 2019 UR Undergraduate Research Expo. Reem presented a poster titled "Shear Wave Elastography to Investigate the Role of Interferon Gamma on Treatment of Pancreatic Ductal Adenocarcinoma." The expo, which took place on Friday, April 19, 2019, featured undergraduate researchers who gave talks and presented posters that featured the wide variety and high quality of research they have done both here at the UR and all around the world.

Hexuan (April) Wang Successfully Defends PhD Thesis

Congratulations to April Wang who successfully defended her PhD thesis titled “Elastographic Imaging of Pancreatic Cancer Tumor Microenvironment.” April's public defense took place on Thursday, April 4, 2019, immediately followed by a closed-door defense session. April has been advised by Professor Marvin Doyley. Her PhD committee was chaired by Professor Regine Choe (Biomedical Engineering); other committee members were Professor Kevin Parker (Electrical & Computer Engineering) and Professor Steve McAleavey (Biomedical Engineering). Again, congratulations to April and many thanks for her hard work and significant contributions to Professor Doyley’s Parametric Imaging Research Lab!
