Melisanda Feliz earned both her BS (2022) and MS (2023) in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Rochester, completing her master’s through the Center for Medical Technology Innovation (CMTI) program. We are proud to share that she was recently awarded a Fulbright student grant for the English Teaching Assistant (ETA) program in La Rioja, Spain, where she will help Spanish children strengthen their English communication skills.

Sponsored by the U.S. Department of State since 1946, the Fulbright US Student Programaims to promote mutual understanding and peace between the United States and other nations through educational and cultural exchange. Recipients conduct research, pursue advanced studies, and assist in teaching English communication skills and American culture abroad, while also participating in a wide range of self-initiated community engagement endeavors in their host countries.

Feliz spent the 2020 spring semester abroad in Sydney, Australia, although her experience was cut short by the global pandemic. She previously applied her passion for children's education by serving as a kindergarten tutor in the LEAP Program through Rochester Center for Community Engagement. The former Kearns Scholar and McNair Scholar was also a chemistry peer study group leader and teaching assistant for several biomedical engineering courses while in Rochester. She hopes to incorporate her engineering skills into her teaching and extracurricular activities in Spain.

Congratulations to Melisanda and all Fulbright recipients!
