Research is one of the most valuable experiences a student can have.

Our research programs have broad societal impact: we have multiple programs related to energy, health and medicine, the connected world, and music. Nearly all of our faculty members and graduate students actively conduct research, as do many of our undergraduate students.

Students of ECE faculty members have strong research ties with centers such as the Laboratory for Laser Energetics, the Rochester Center for Biomedical Ultrasound, the Center for Visual Science, the Center for Emerging and Innovative Sciences. Our faculty provides leadership for many University-level initiatives ranging from nanotechnology and audio research to communications.

Our faculty also has dual appointments in and collaborates significantly with many other departments across the River Campus (e.g., Institute of Optics, Physics and Astronomy, Biomedical Engineering, Goergen Institute for Data Science) and at the School of Medicine and Dentistry (e.g., Wilmot Cancer Center, Surgery, Imaging Sciences, Neuroscience).
