Marisol Herrera-Perez and BME students receive recognition from RES
Marisol Herrera-Perez, Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering, has been named a finalist for the Rochester Engineering Society (RES) Young Engineer of the Year award. In addition, two BME students - Samantha Tapuwa Magowo (BME ’27) and Natalie Maye (BME ’27) - have earned RES scholarships.
The RES Young Engineer of the Year award recognizes outstanding achievement and contributions to the engineering profession by young engineers in the Rochester region and promotes the importance of engineering practice to society. Nominees must be actively involved in the practice of engineering and demonstrate excellence, creativity, and initiative in their work, as well as the value of their contributions to the profession and society.
Two of our undergraduate students were also recognized with scholarships. The Susan L Costa Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Samantha Tapuwa Magowo and recognizes the student who has maintained academic excellence while actively participating in extracurricular and/or community activities. The Joseph W. Campbell Memorial Scholarship, established in honor of Executive Director Joe Campbell and his commitment to public service, was awarded to Natalie Maye.

We congratulate Dr. Herrera-Perez, on this well-deserved recognition, as well as Samantha and Natalie for their achievements! The Rochester Engineering Society (RES) will recognize all award winners at the Annual RES Awards Presentation & Brunch on May 2, 2026, in Goergen Hall.
