Overview
Located in Wegmans Hall, the Goergen Institute for Data Science (GIDS) is Rochester's interdisciplinary data science hub.
Academics
At the undergraduate level, the Goergen Institute offers a Bachelor of Arts (BA) and a Bachelor of Science (BS) in data science. Both programs combine computer science, statistics, and the student’s choice of advanced coursework in an application area of data science. Application areas include business, biology, earth and environmental science, and political science among others.
The Institute also offers two graduate credentials. The Master of Science (MS) in data science provides students with the option to focus their studies on computational and statistical methods, health and biomedical science, or business and social science. This 30 credit program can be completed in 2 to 3 semesters of full-time study.
The Advanced Certificate in data science is designed for individuals who have a working knowledge of data science gained through industry or academic experience, who would like to formalize their training with a deeper mastery of the fundamental concepts in the field. This 16 credit program can be in completed in 2 to 4 semesters of part-time study.
Research
The Goergen Institute is home to several New York State Center of Excellence in Data Science distinguished researchers, and is a hub for interdisciplinary data science research. This research is broken up into three categories:
