Short Biography
Research Overview
Andrea received his B.S. in Mathematics from Scuola Normale Superiore and the University of Pisa, where his undergraduate thesis focused on stochastic methods for global optimization. He began his career in industry, working in cybersecurity, before returning to academia to earn a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Rochester. His doctoral research focused on automatic music transcription, bridging signal processing and machine learning.
He subsequently spent several years in the startup sector, developing machine learning methods for medical image processing. Andrea has since returned to the University of Rochester, where he is a Research Associate Professor with SoundSpace. His current work focuses on harnessing artificial intelligence to build collaborative systems for music creation and learning, as well as on music digital rights management and audio media security in the age of AI.
