IEEE offers both conferences and professional educational activities; giving students to opportunities to network and collaborate with fellow electrical engineering students, as well as IEEE professionals.

University of Rochester, Nu Rho Chapter
The Nu Rho Chapter of IEEE-Eta Kappa Nu (HKN) is the official honor society for the IEEE at the University of Rochester. Since our chartering in 2025, we have served as a community for top-performing students in the Hajim School of Engineering and related technical fields. Nationally, HKN is a prestigious organization that recognizes individuals who demonstrate exceptional scholarship, character, and attitude, connecting its members to a global network of over 200,000 innovators and professionals.
Membership is open to students majoring in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Audio and Music Engineering, Optics, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or Mathematics. To be eligible for induction, you must be a junior, senior, or graduate student who has demonstrated a high level of academic excellence within your department. Our chapter focuses on technical growth, peer mentorship, and connecting academic study to professional careers in technology.
Invitations to join the Nu Rho Chapter are issued on an invitation-only basis. You do not need to submit an application; instead, the leadership team identifies the highest-performing students in each eligible major every semester. If you meet the criteria for membership, you will be reached out to directly via your university email with details on the induction process and the benefits of joining our society.
