Tuition and Fees

Tuition and fees for the current year are available on the Office of the Bursar website. Tuition

Our MS program is typically completed with 32 SAS/Hajim graduate credit hours. The amount of tuition for the MS program will vary depending on whether a partial tuition waiver is offered within the acceptance letter.

Based on 2024-25 tuition, the Master of Science in Data Science program is $65,600 which assumes 32 SAS/Hajim credits. Tuition for some courses taken at the Simon School have a different amount per credit hour. In 2023-24, the cost for SAS/Hajim courses is $2050/credit hour and $2319/credit hour for Simon School courses.

If you are offered admission to our MS program, a non-refundable deposit of $1500 is required by April 15 (or by the offer deadline) to hold your spot in our cohort. This deposit will be applied to your financial account to reduce the amount due on your first tuition payment. The fee may be waived for University of Rochester students, employees, alumni and part-time students. There is no deposit for the advanced certificate.

Application Fee

The application fee is $30 for the master's program. The fee may be waived for University of Rochester students, employees, and alumni. It may also be waived for part-time applicants. There is no application fee for the advanced certificate.

Student Fees

Full-time student fees in 2024-25 are $424 ($414 for the mandatory health fee and $10 for the graduate activity fee) per semester. International students will also pay an international fee which is currently $53/semester in 2024-25. Approximate estimate for living expenses in Rochester is $11,000 per semester. If required to do a summer bridging course or if spreading studies over the course of three semesters, assume additional increases to program costs.

Health Insurance

Full-time students can either enroll in the UR Student Health Insurance Plan (Aetna) or they can waive this plan if their health insurance plan meets University Insurance Criteria. Additional Information can be found on the UHS Health Insurance for Full-Time Students page. In 2024-25, the cost was $1860/semester. 

Merit Scholarships

Full-time students admitted to the program typically receive a partial merit based scholarship award applicable to tuition in the offer letter.  The average award is 33% of tuition costs.
